This is a well overdue fundraiser to help fund future TAA events. Last year we had to cut the bands due to police interference on the Saturday of TAA so we hope to put on as many bands as possible for this event.

Requiem: From a Howl to a Cacophony

23-24 February 2024 in east London

*** CALL OUT ***

SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 4th FEBRUARY

5.      Donate your work to the first(?) TAA Art Auction – Saturday (24/02) (email gallery@taaexhibitions.org)

This is TOTALLY NOT A TAA!
That means we have the luxury of time to access and install and facilities, including full disabled access and toilet. However it’s smaller so we have less wall space, and it is not first come first served.  This is word of mouth, keep off Facebook and Instagram but spread it about with your mates!

You are welcome to submit any work on any theme for the gallery but if we fill up those that address it will be prioritised, and the gallery layout will be curated.  There won’t be a stage for bands / cabaret and we will be closing at 9 pm.

Theme: We’re looking for art that relates to – ACTIVISM – ALTERNATE FUTURES – GLOBAL CRISES  - HOPES - DREAMS - FEARS – NATURE – LANGUAGE – SOUND – SILENCE – LISTENING - STORIES – COMMUNITY – DIALOGUE – COMMUNICATION

Requiem: From a Howl to a Cacophony

This exhibition is a sonic boom, a collective roar echoing the anxieties and aspirations of our hyper-connected world. We stand at the crossroads of global crises, where individual howls rise in protest, to a symphony of intersectional solidarity. Yet, within the cacophony, silence lurks – without these rests that intersperse soundwaves there is only a monotonous drone.  These make spaces for introspection, for listening to the whispers of nature, remembering old ways and the unseen ecologies beneath our feet.

'Requiem' is not a done and dusted final goodbye choking on religion and traditional rules.  It is a transformative journey of rebirth. We break free from the sterile white cube, crafting a den, a safe space for dialogue. Narratives collide, challenging who speaks and who listens. We explore the power of language, raucousness, multiple perspectives and the single voice that can pierce the silence. Through art, we reimagine the future, forging alternate paths where community thrives, and nature's song resonates once more.

This is an open call for artists who dare to solo or synchronise, to howl, to whisper, to listen.

“We’re tired of the oppressive constraints of a system, put in place by the powers that be.

We choose the power of our own conscious creation, over the monotonous corporate realm.

This is a platform for all artists who may benefit from this synergy, to explore and co-create this space for manifestation.

Bound by values of respect, kindness and curiosity. Will you join us in planting seeds of new ideas and co-create a new future?”

Hope to see you there!

What is a TAA?

TAA is an underground festival of creativity that has been taking over venues across the UK since 2001. It was an initiative by Random Artists to use free-party tactics to open temporary arts and social spaces in occupied and often derelict buildings.

TAA exhibitions are creative spaces that are organised and constructed by the artists themselves. They operate under an open-access policy, meaning everyone is free to exhibit their work or perform.

Time-honoured art forms sit comfortably amongst digital work, sculptures, installations, films, performance and music. We encourage artists and audience to find their own level of creative involvement and believe that all of our voices are equally important.

This not only opens the doors to a no-cost space to exhibit within but also encourages first-timers and the artist within us all. All contributions are welcome and there is no celebrity here – our aim is to break free of the sterile nature of traditional galleries and instead create a space which removes barriers between art, artist and audience.
